There's some route news out of Alaska Airlines this week. The carrier will be adding a total of eight new routes from the West Coast. All eight routes will be kicking off in 2020. Alaska is staggering route introductions from January through April. However, customers can already purchase tickets for some of the routes. Here's a look at the new additions:

  • Spokane to Los Angeles
  • Spokane to San Francisco
  • Redmond to Los Angeles
  • Redmond to San Diego
  • Redmond to San Francisco
  • Boise to Los Angeles
  • Missoula to Los Angeles
  • Anchorage to San Francisco

Alaska Airlines also has plans to increase the frequency of some of its existing routes. An extra flight between San Francisco and Orange County will be added on Jan. 7. Alaska plans to turn its five-times-per-week flight between San Diego and Orlando into a daily option on Jan. 7.

Be prepared for March 19 to be a big day for Alaska Airlines. That's the day when the airline will be adding a second daily flight between San Francisco and Chicago. March 19 also happens to be the date when additional routes from San Diego to Boise and Santa Rosa, California are being added. In addition, Alaska is increasing direct service between San Diego and San Jose starting on that day.

Alaska customers can also look out for a second daily flight between San Diego and Boston that will be kicking off on May 21.

Most of the new flights will use the Embraer 175 jet. You may recall reading that this aircraft only features window and aisle seating. Travelers can enjoy seasonal menus, robust entertainment options and paid Wi-Fi when flying on this aircraft.
