Every credit card is different, but there are certain things you want to keep in mind, in general, when choosing the right travel credit cards to take with you on trips outside of the United States.

If you travel abroad fairly regularly, you would want to bring along a credit card that lets you earn rewards on the things you typically spend on while a trip, such as dining, shopping, purchases made at hotels etc - basically everything you spend on.

That said, the potential to earn rewards on your purchases isn't the only thing you should pay attention to. Considering that you may spend a couple of thousand dollars altogether on an overseas trip with your loved ones, be sure to use travel credit cards that let you enjoy 0% foreign transaction fees!

For example, spending $3,000 on a credit card that charges 3% foreign transaction fee means chalking up $90 on foreign transaction fees alone. By using a rewards credit card that lets you avoid foreign transaction fees, you get to avoid extra charges all while earning your rewards. It's a win-win situation, really.

Besides considering credit cards with $0 foreign transaction fees, you might also want to think about the kind of perks and benefits the card offers, such as complimentary airport lounge access worldwide, travel accident insurance, complimentary elite hotel status that lets you enjoy exclusive benefits, airline fee credit etc.

Keep in mind some credit cards that we have rounded up below come with annual fees while others do not. The right credit card for you very much depends on how much value you get from your credit card of choice. Do your homework to decide if the annual fee, if any, is worth paying for.
