Readers of Condé Nast Traveler have crowned Chicago as the best large city in the United States. The publication recently polled readers to find out which major city in the country offers it all. This is actually the third year in a row that readers have chosen Chicago. More than 600,000 people from around the globe submitted responses for the Condé Nast Traveler 2019 Readers' Choice Awards.

Condé Nast Traveler's category for the best large city was introduced for the first time back in 2015. New York City grabbed the top spot in both 2015 and 2016. However, Chicago has reigned in the category ever since taking the crown in 2017.

What helped Chicago earn the title as the best large city in the country? Readers of Condé Nast Traveler are in love with Chicago's culinary scene. In addition, the city's many museums, tours, theaters and music venues are helping to create a very lively place to live, work and play. The expanded Chicago Riverwalk is also helping to bring new life to Chicago.

The hotel industry certainly agrees that Chicago is the place to be in 2019. Hotel operators have added 26 new hotels in Chicago within the past four years. Many of the new properties in the city are being placed in emerging neighborhoods.

Leisure travel is driving much of the growth in Chicago's hotel industry at the moment. Smith Travel Research recently published data showing that demand for leisure rooms in the city has grown by 14 percent in the past three years. Demand for leisure rooms was up by 4.7 percent for the first eight months of 2019.
