Celebrity Cruises just raised its daily gratuity charges. This took effect on January 6, 2020. The tipping changes represent a nearly seven percent increase.

For standard staterooms, the cost will go from $14.50 to $15.50. Those in Concierge Class and AquaClass staterooms will see the cost go from $15 to $16. Those traveling in Suite Class accommodations will see their cost go from $18 to $19. All tips are based on a per day, per guest model. On-board tips are shared between dining and culinary services employees, housekeeping personnel and staff from other departments who work behind the scenes.

Those who don't want to worry about tipping will love Virgin Voyages. The new cruise line has made it clear it will have a 'no tipping' policy.

Celebrity's rates are more or less around the industry average. For a standard stateroom on Carnival, the fee is $13.99, while Suite Guests pay $15.99. Norwegian Cruise Line charges $15 for guests in staterooms and $18 for guests in suites or The Haven. Royal Caribbean charges $14.50 for those in Junior Suites or below, while Grand Suites and above guests pay $17.50 a night. All quotes are per guest, per day.

Celebrity guests who have already booked and pre-paid their gratuities will not have to pay the increased rates.

Meanwhile, Norwegian Cruise Line just raised its room service fee while Carnival Cruise Line just hiked the fee for the cruise line's CHEERS! beverage package. It went up $3 a day on three- and four-day cruises. The new price for the CHEERS! Beverage program is $54.95 a day if pre-purchased. Otherwise, the cost is $59.95 if purchased on board. Guests who have already pre-purchased the drink package before the end of 2019 will not pay extra.
