Cirium, a travel data and analytics company, just released its on-time performance numbers for airlines in 2019. The data shows that Delta came out ahead in North America.
Delta Air Lines was on-time 85.69 percent of the time, while second place Alaska Airlines enjoyed an on-time rating of 82.01 percent. Rounding out the top five were Southwest Airlines, Spirit Airlines and American Airlines.
Southwest, Allegiant Air, WestJet, JetBlue and Frontier all improved over their 2018 numbers. This is impressive as the airline industry, in general, faced a host of problems. For instance, American faced a dispute with its mechanics as well as flight cancellations pertaining to the grounding of the Boeing 737 MAX. Southwest has had to deal with plenty of flight cancellations due to the grounding of the Boeing 737 MAX, too.
While Delta was #1 in North America, it received a third place ranking worldwide. Aeroflot was ranked the most punctual mainline carrier on the planet. However, Russian legacy carrier Aeroflot has a huge advantage as it has more controls in place in the environment when compared with other airlines. Not only that, Moscow's Sheremetyevo International Airport won the top spot for the most punctual airport in the world with 95 percent of flights leaving on time.
Aeroflot was on-time an impressive 86.68 percent of the time, while second place All Nippon Airways was just a little behind at 86.26 percent. Delta took third at 85.69 percent.
In the review, Aeroflot was also the most punctual airline in Europe. All Nippon Airways was the most punctual in the Asia-Pacific region, while Copa Airlines won the top spot in Latin America. Qatar Airways was the most punctual in the Middle East and Africa, beating out Emirates.
