Atlanta-based Delta Air Lines is sharing its success with its employees this Valentine's Day. The carrier just announced that it intends to pay out $1.6 billion to workers as part of a profit-sharing program. Each employee can expect to receive a boost that works out to about two months of pay. The sweetest part of all is that employees will receive their profit-sharing checks on Valentine's Day!

Delta isn't a stranger to generous payouts. Delta employees shared a payout totaling $1.3 billion last year. The number was $1.1 billion for both 2018 and 2017. What is interesting is that this year's huge payout eclipses the record-breaking payout of $1.5 billion that Delta shared with employees in 2016.

It only looks like growth ahead for Delta. In fact, we know that Delta has plans to expand its workforce in 2020. The airline will be hiring anywhere between 6,000 and 7,000 new people between now and the end of the year. This year's hiring spree will be part of a four-year plan to bring in 25,000 new employees in total.

News of Delta's record-breaking payout for employees comes on the heels of news that the carrier topped all fourth-quarter expectations for 2019. Industry insiders are seeing the smooth quarter as a reaction to strong demand for travel and lower fuel prices at the close of 2019. Delta also managed to reach a record $47 billion in revenue last year. Delta shares were up by more than 3 percent at the beginning of the week.
