Denver International Airport is undergoing a $1.5 billion expansion that's poised to be completed by 2023. It will expand all three airport concourses and add 39 new gates when all is said and done. This expansion will increase the airport's gate capacity by 30 percent, and there is something for everyone in the expansion.

While there will be new gates and concessions, there will also be more lounge seating, nursery rooms and family restrooms. In addition, the airport will have new outdoor patios for those who want to relax outside before their flight.

Concourse A, B and C will get one patio each. The patio in Concourse A and B will be located on the west side while the one in Concourse C will be on the east side. Concourse B will be the first to get the new patio, and it should be open by the end of the year. The other two patios are set to open by the end of next year. The patios will offer outdoor seating, fire pits and a pet relief area. Visitors will enjoy stunning views of either the mountains or prairies.

The huge advantage to the outdoor patios at Denver International Airport is that they will be accessible to all travelers, no matter what airline or concourse they are flying out of. Case in point, Delta Air Lines has outdoor patios at a few of its lounges, including its Delta Sky Club locations in New York's JFK and Atlanta. United offers an outdoor terrace at its LAX United Club location.
