Understandably, many people are afraid to travel right now. When passing through airports and during flight, a traveler is taking a risk that he or she may catch the coronavirus and incur huge expenses for their trip. Emirates knows this and is now the first airline to offer complimentary global COVID-19 insurance, regardless of what cabin class you are flying in.
The insurance is valid for passengers flying from July 23 to October 31, 2020. It's free of charge, and customers don't have to register separately. Coverage is valid all the way to 31 days from the beginning of the traveler's journey. It is valid even if you continue beyond your final Emirates destination.
Be sure to contact Emirates COVID-19 Assistance as soon as possible, in case you test positive for COVID-19 while traveling.
Travelers will be able to file a claim for up to 150,000 euros ($174,000 USD) for medical expenses incurred. They will also be able to receive 100 euros a day ($116 USD) to cover quarantine expenses, for up to 14 days. Repatriation and funeral costs may be covered as well under the insurance.
The airline has a dedicated number (+971 4 2708825) as well as a WhatsApp number (+971 56 3589937) for passengers who have any questions or are looking to file a claim. You can also email the carrier at email@example.com. Testing is not covered by the insurance, and out-of-pocket expenses will not be reimbursed. Keep in mind medical services which have not been organized by Emirates COVID-19 Assistance which is managed by NEXTCARE Claims Management LLC (NEXtCARE) will not be reimbursed.
Emirates is trying to boost confidence for travelers, and by offering complimentary COVID-19 insurance, the airline hopes to attract more passengers in the coming weeks and months. The airline resumed more flights earlier this month and hopes to reach more than 60 destinations by August. Emirates posted an FAQ on its website listing all these details.
