You may be able to update your passport the next time you drop off a package to be shipped. Expedited passport services are being offered at 2,000 FedEx locations around the country. The services are being offered as part of a collaboration between FedEx and an online company called RushMyPassport.
FedEx locations that are offering passport services are able to help travelers with expedited passport processing and passport renewals. You'll even be able to have a government-compliant passport photo snapped during your visit. FedEx can also help you with overnight shipping for rushed passport applications if you're really in a hurry. You will be able to take advantage of tracking services as you wait for your passport paperwork to be approved and received.
Passport specialists are being staffed to ensure that customers get one-on-one help when they visit FedEx locations in person. Here's what you'll need if you show up:
- Proof of citizenship.
- Your expired or current United States passport.
- Payment via check.
- Your plane ticket confirmation and travel itinerary.
These new passport services at FedEx locations couldn't have arrived at a better time. There is currently an across-the-board delay for passport applications. The usual processing window spanning four to six weeks has now been pushed to six to eight weeks.
Of course, you will need to pay money if you want to take advantage of expedited passport services at convenient FedEx locations around the country. It will cost $99 for a rush renewal that takes between 10 and 12 business days to be completed. There is also the option to shell out $449 if you need an overnight renewal or you need to get a new passport the next day.
