The Freddie Awards just named the best airline and hotel loyalty programs for 2020. More than 3.6 million ballots were counted leading up to the announcement. Which brands made it into the winner's circle for 2020? The big winners this time around are the Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards program and Marriott Bonvoy.

The Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards program was named the Frequent Flyer Program of the Year for 2020. This is actually the fifth year in a row that the program has earned the top spot in this category. The Rapid Rewards program also took home top spots in the categories of Best Customer Service and Best Redemption Ability. Additionally, the Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards Premier Credit Card from Chase was voted the Best Loyalty Credit Card.

Marriott's Bonvoy program earned the award for Program of the Year for the Americas region at this year's Freddie Awards. This is the eleventh time in a row that Marriott's loyalty program has dominated in this category. Bonvoy also took home the top spot for Best Elite Program, Best Promotion and Best Redemption Ability.

American Airlines didn't quite make the big splash that Southwest did at this year's Freddie Awards. However, the airline's AAdvantage loyalty program did notably take home the award for Best Elite Program in the Americas. This is the ninth year in a row that American has received this award.

The Freddie Awards is an annual event that has been recognizing excellence in the hospitality industry for 30 years. Voters use a'value voting' system that requires them to assign a number value for each program that they consider the best in its class. The millions of voters who lend their opinions are given six weeks to vote on programs based in the regions of Middle East/Asia/Oceania, Europe/Africa and the Americas.
