Hyatt Hotels has announced it will open a new resort in Puerto Rico. The new resort will be a two-part renovation and rebuild project of the current Melia Coco Beach resort in Rio Grande on the northeastern coast of Puerto Rico. Hyatt has stated it will invest heavily into this area because the hotel giant is confident there will be a significant increase in tourism as the Caribbean island nation continues to rebuild.

The new resort will first open as The Resort at Coco Beach in July. Later in 2019, the hotel giant will complete an extensive redesign and renovation of the property and relaunch the resort as the Hyatt Regency Coco Beach Resort. Renovations are expected to be completed in the fall.

The property has 486 guestrooms, including 93 suites. The peninsula where the resort is located has a beautiful beachfront and is home to an award-winning 36-hole golf course. Hyatt Regency Coco Beach Resort's guests can also enjoy an abundance of flexible meeting and event space, a club lounge, restaurants, a full range of amenities and services and more.

This new full-service resort will be the only one of its kind in Puerto Rico under the Hyatt brand name when all is said and done. The hotel giant believes that this is just a first step for its company and it hopes to take its relationship with Puerto Rico further in the future. Hyatt currently operates four select-service properties in Puerto Rico. These select-service Hyatt hotels include: Hyatt House San Juan, Hyatt Place Manati, Hyatt Place San Juan Bayamon and Hyatt Place San Juan City Center.
