The InterContinental Hotel in Hong Kong has announced that in the first quarter of 2019, it will close for 12 to 16 months for a complete renovation. The iconic hotel has been ranked as a 5-star hotel for the last five years consecutively because of its superior service, outstanding dining experiences, large rooms and beautiful views of Victoria Harbour and Hong Kong Island.

The design overhaul of the hotel's facade, lobby, along with its suites and rooms will be completed by Curiosity Inc., a top design house based in Tokyo. Just to put things into perspective, Curiosity Inc. has completed designs for Dolce & Gabbana, Louis Vuitton and Fendi, to name a few of its previous clients. The InterContinental believes that Curiosity Inc. will bring to the hotel the look and feel that the hotel wishes to convey to its clientèle.

The InterContinental is home to several world-famous restaurants. Yan Toh Heen, a 2-Michelin star Cantonese restaurant, will remain open in the evenings throughout the renovations. It is anticipated that the other restaurants and event venues will re-open in the evenings late in the summer of 2019.

Every inch of the hotel will be renovated. Guest rooms will be completely redone, and bathrooms, open areas and even the areas designed for the employees will receive a fresh new look. The exterior of the hotel will be renovated as well, giving the hotel a brand new appearance.

The renovations are anticipated to take 12 months to complete. However, the hotel is slating a 16 month period for them to be completed to cover any unforeseen delays that may occur. Once the hotel renovation is completed, it is anticipated that a "Grand Opening" event will take place.
