JetBlue is reducing compensation amounts for delayed flights in 2020. This may come as a surprise to many customers who viewed JetBlue as a beacon of hope in an industry where carriers are notoriously vague about compensation amounts. JetBlue actually publishes its full breakdown for compensation amounts directly on its website.

Anyone who has taken a look at JetBlue's website this month may have noticed that the numbers look different. Here's a refresher of what the compensation amounts looked like in 2019 that's taken directly from JetBlue's website:

  • $75 credit for a delay of 3 to 3:59 hours.
  • $100 credit for a delay of 4 to 4:59 hours.
  • $150 credit for a delay of 5 to 5:59 hours.
  • $250 credit for a delay of 6 hours or more.

The good news is that JetBlue is still offering compensation for all four tiers in 2020. However, the carrier has decreased compensation for two out of four levels. Here's the new breakdown taken directly from JetBlue's website:

  • $50 credit for a delay of 3 to 3:59 hours.
  • $100 credit for a delay of 4 to 4:59 hours.
  • $150 credit for a delay of 5 to 5:59 hours.
  • $200 credit for a delay of 6 hours or more.

JetBlue's compensation amounts apply for all controllable irregularities that lead to departure and ground delays. Compensation amounts offered by the carrier weren't exactly huge to begin with. However, the fact that JetBlue is chipping away at delay compensation is still sure to feel like a blow to customers.
