With the onset of the summer travel season starting on Memorial Day, JetBlue has come out to make it official that from now through July 6th, the airline guarantees that all middle seats will be blocked unless you are flying as a group.

'Safety From the Ground Up' is the new initiative JetBlue is undertaking as demand for flights increases during the summer. In addition to guaranteeing the blocked middle seats until July 6th, the airline will continue to monitor temperatures of the flight crew and will electrostatic spray each plane prior to use in a bid to disinfect the aircraft.

Other major airlines had promised the blocked middle seat, only to back out of that promise when ticket sales rose. Many of the major airlines have stated that the blocked seats were 'conditional' based on the capacity of the flight. These airlines have further stated that if possible, the flight crew will move passengers around to encourage social distancing.

JetBlue, however, has made it clear that if the airline needs to increase flight frequency during this period to honor the blocked seats, JetBlue will take the necessary steps to make that happen to give its customers greater peace of mind. The airline stated that it would only allow parties traveling together to sit together until at least July 6th. Otherwise, all middle seats will be blocked on the airline's Airbus flights. Additionally, all aisle seats will be blocked on Embraer flights.

The company will reevaluate its policy later in June to determine if it should continue the blocked middle seat policy after July 6th. Other major airlines have not made any official statements about the summer travel season as of this time.
