Miles and More, the frequent travelers reward program from Lufthansa, has announced that it has made changes to the way that travelers will earn miles in the future. The new system, which will go into effect March 12, 2018, is designed to more effectively reward customers who travel with Lufthansa.

The new structure of the program will be more revenue-based than miles flown-based. Fliers will receive four miles for every Euro spent, which will include ticket price and any add-on fees they have to pay for.

Travelers who are a part of the HON Circle, Frequent Traveler or Senator rewards programs who fly on any Lufthansa Group flight (Lufthansa, Austrian or Swiss Airlines), venture partner transatlantic flights (United Airlines and Air Canada), and Miles and More participants Air Dolomiti, Adria Airways, Croatia Airlines, LOT Polish Airlines will receive 6 miles per Euro spent on flights booked through Lufthansa.

Miles and More status members will earn 5 miles per Euro spent on all Lufthansa flights and flights on Brussels Airlines and Eurowings.

All flights must be booked directly through a Lufthansa Group airline to receive these additional benefits. Flights that are booked through a travel agent or ticketed by an airline outside of the Lufthansa Group will receive miles in accordance to the current reward structure offered by the Miles and More program, i.e. according to booking class / length of route.

Lufthansa has stated that they have made these changes to their rewards program in an effort to give the program greater consistency for their travelers. They have opted for the extended start date so that clients can plan accordingly with the changes to the program.

Keep in mind tickets booked before the March 12 start date will be subject to the current system. This is the case even if the trip begins on or after March 12.
