The 2019 World Airline Awards results are out: Qatar Airways has come out tops this year. The Doha-based carrier scooped up the coveted accolade at the Paris Air Show, along with plenty of other awards including the World's Best Business Class, World's Best Business Class Seat, Best Airline in the Middle East, Best First Class Lounge in the Middle East, Best Business Class Lounge in the Middle East, Best Cabin Crew in the Middle East, Best Economy Class in the Middle East, Best Business Class Catering in the Middle East, Best Airline Cabin Cleanliness in the Middle East awards.
Mr Akbar Al Baker, Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive, could not be prouder especially since Qatar Airways is now the first ever airline in the world to have won the World's Best Airline award for the fifth time.
The top 10 airlines at the 2019 World Airline Awards are, in sequence: Qatar Airways; Singapore Airlines; ANA All Nippon Airways; Cathay Pacific; Emirates; EVA Air; Hainan Airlines; Qantas Airways; Lufthansa; and Thai Airways.
Besides taking home the second best airline in the world award, Singapore Airlines won several other awards including the World's Best First Class, World's Best First Class Seat, World's Best Cabin Crew, Best Airline in Asia, Best First Class Lounge in Asia, Best Business Class Seat in Asia, Best Premium Economy Class in Asia awards. Singapore Airlines has been named ‘Airline of the Year' for four times thus far.
Japan's ANA All Nippon Airways has been ranked as the third best airline in the world this year. Additionally, it swept home the World's Best Airport Services, World's Best Business Class Onboard Catering, Best Business Class in Asia, Best Airline Staff in Japan, Best Cabin Crew in Japan awards.
While none of the top 10 airlines in the world are from the United States or North America for that matter, that's not to say airlines in our part of the world aren't doing well.
United Airlines snagged the World's Best Business Class Lounge, Best Business Class Seat in North America, and Most Improved Airline in North America awards. American Airlines took home the Best First Class in North America award. Delta Air Lines won the Best Airline Staff in North America, Best Airline Staff in the USA, Best Cabin Crew in the USA awards.
Southwest Airlines won the Best Low-Cost Airline in North America and Best Low-Cost Airline in the USA awards. JetBlue Airways took home the Best Regional Airline in North America and Best Regional Airline in the USA awards. Air Canada took home the Best Airline in North America, World's Best Business Class Lounge Dining, Best Business Class in North America. Best Airline Staff in Canada, and Best Airline Cabin Cleanliness in North America awards. Last but not least, WestJet won the Best Low-Cost Airline in Canada award.
For those who do not already know, the World Airline Awards are independent and impartial - all award winning airlines are voted for by customers from around the world. Since its inception in 1999, the World Airline Awards have offered travelers an airline customer satisfaction study that was truly global. For this year's World Airline Awards, 21.65 million eligible entries by customers from over 100 nationalities were taken into consideration.
