There are some interesting trends emerging at the moment when it comes to Americans traveling to Europe. The average cost for a trip to any of the destinations listed above is $3,815. That's actually about 6 percent cheaper than last year. Travelers enjoying Greece actually spend the most. Travelers taking in the sights and sounds of Spain spend the least.
It turns out that different generations have their own preferences when it comes to the top cities to visit in Europe. Spain is seeing a big spike in American visitors belonging to Generation Z. Millennials love the Netherlands. In fact, there has been an increase of 92 percent when it comes to the number of millennial Americans heading to the Netherlands. Generation X travelers are loving Switzerland and Germany at the moment. Travel among Americans belonging to Gen X is up by 54 percent for Switzerland and 22 percent for Germany. Baby boomers are all about Greece at the moment. Trips to Greece among that generation are up by 40 percent.
