Colombia is becoming a more popular tourist destination. People are flocking to coastal cities like Cartagena as well as the bustling cities of Medellin and Bogota. And now, it just got even easier for those wanting to travel between Colombia and Australia.

While United and Avianca have had a codeshare agreement, the two airlines just expanded the current one to include flights between Sydney, Australia and Bogota, Colombia. This means that those flying on Avianca can travel with a single ticket for both the outbound and return journey. Travelers will only have to deal with one luggage check-in and documentation process. At Bogota's airport, travelers can then easily connect to other Colombian or South American destinations.

The flight to Sydney departs from Bogota three days a week - Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. It departs with Avianca from Bogota, then connects with United in Los Angeles for the flight to Sydney. The route from Sydney to Bogota is offered daily. United operates the Sydney-San Francisco-Los Angeles legs, while Avianca flies from Los Angeles to Bogota.

When flying on these new routes, travelers can early miles with the Avianca LifeMiles program and the United Airlines MileagePlus program. Both Avianca and United are part of Star Alliance, which is the largest airline alliance in the world.
